Honda Scenic Audio Explained

When activated, the app provides an audio narrative describing the scenery outside. The audio is amazingly descriptive and can explain details like trees, buildings, water, and the weather. It uses adjectives, comparisons, and dimensions to paint a vivid picture of the surroundings. For example, if it’s a rainy day, it can use terminology like “wet concrete.”

These scenic vistas are something sighted individuals take for granted. Blind passengers don’t have this luxury and must rely on the driver or passenger to describe the scenery.

How the App Works

Honda Scenic Audio incorporates the latest in generative AI technology, which works in tandem with satellite imaging, computer visioning, and geotargeting, among other things. This app is the byproduct of Honda automakers' partnership with the Perkins School for the Blind and the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind (AIDB).

The app is still in its beta phase; more testing is needed, and there’s no timeframe yet regarding a release date. According to AIDB President Dennis Gilliam, ED., this app will promote “independent living and discovery.”
